Important Information About Coverage of Social Work Fees:

Did you know...

Social Workers are the largest group of professionals providing counselling and psychotherapy in North America.

Counselling and psychotherapy services provided by social workers are sometimes excluded from coverage in group benefit plans and private health plans.

Some group benefit plans do not cover social work services because no one has asked for inclusion of this benefit.

What you can do to help...

If you work in a unionized setting, ask your union representative to add social work to the list of professional services included in the group benefits plan during the next contract negotiations.

If you work in a non-unionized setting, ask your employer or human services department to add social work to the list of professional services included in the group benefits plan.

If you have a private health plan, ask about adding coverage of social work services to your plan. Social work services should be a benefit in all private health plans.
